The One Magic Stretch That Will Help Your Low Back Pain

There are many articles out there about stopping low back pain.  And you might be wondering, “What actually works?”

I’ve been a massage therapist in Fort Worth for some time now, and I’m going to tell you about the one stretch that my clients all love – it’s so good it’s practically magic.  (If you’ve come into my office for low back pain, you already know what I’m talking about!)

There are many stretches that can help relieve back pain, but this stretch is unique in that you don’t even have to get out of bed.  If you have trouble getting up and down from the floor for other types of stretches, then this stretch is a winner for you!

The Side Lying Piriformis Stretch

First, you’re going to lie flat on your back on your bed near the side of the bed.

Then, you’re going to roll over to the side and face the wall.  Your legs should be one on top of the other, knee on top of knee.

Next, hang the leg that’s on top off the bed.  Let gravity take hold and feel the stretch in your hip and buttocks.

Then, as your leg is dangling, turn your head and try looking at the opposite end of the bed. Try to keep both shoulders on the bed.  That may not be possible at first, and that’s okay.  In time, that last step will get easier.   Hold the stretch for 20 to 30 seconds, and then relax and rest for a minute.

Repeat the stretch for this leg two more times, and then move to the other side of the bed and stretch the other leg.

Now you know the one magic stretch that helps keep a lot of my clients able to get on about their day.  Have I mentioned that I do this every night, too?  Go ahead and give it a try and let me know what you think!
