Declutter Your Mind in 2018

It’s a great time of year to have fun, enjoy life, drink cocktails. Unfortunately, it can also be a time of stress and overwhelm. There’s no worse feeling than waking up after the holidays feeling broke, empty, or overwhelmed with life. How can you defeat this sensation, move forward, and enjoy yourself?

First, reflect on what you can remove from your life.

Here’s my suggestions on how to declutter your mind as we get ready for the New Year.

I’ve talked about this before, but those deep yoga breaths can have a calming effect on your mind. With each breath just let what’s bothering you slip away. Just 10 minutes a day can have a big impact.

Our brains weren’t meant to multi-task. Science says so! (Want to read an article that talks about some of the science about it? Go here.) So don’t worry about gift-wrapping or making a dish for that potluck party while you’re at work – everything that needs to get done will get done. Focus on one task at a time. You’re mind will thank you.

Do less
I’m not talking about just totally slacking off. I’m saying look at your To-Do list and pick just the essentials. Skip the rest because they can wait.

Get Outside
Talk a walk. Read a book in the sun. Sit by a tree. Soak in the vitamin D. Your body will thank you, and so will your mind.
