What should I expect on my 1st visit to Geek Girl Massage Therapy in Fort Worth?
I will require you to fill out a health history form, and then I’ll ask you a few general questions to establish the type of massage you’d like, and what areas you’d like me to work on, and if there are any contraindications that would prohibit me from giving you a massage. I work out of a one room office, so I’ll step outside while you undress to your level of comfort and get situated on the table.
What are contraindications?
There are certain conditions that will prohibit me from giving you a massage. Were you in a car accident this week? If so, wait until it doesn’t hurt as much. I don’t want to hurt you further, and your muscles are already inflamed too much as it is. Do you have a fever? If so, please stay home. I use the same policy as the schools. You need to be fever free without medication for 24 hours. Are you drunk or high? Then stay home and come see me when you’re not. Did you just get a spray tan? You will more than likely need to reschedule your massage for a different date because the massage oil might completely mess up your tan! Did you just get a tattoo? Please tell me so that I can avoid that area. Not only might a massage ruin the artwork, but it’s an open wound until healed.
Where will my massage take place?
Your session will take place in my treatment room. It’s located on the 2nd floor of Ridglea Village, which is located right behind the Ridglea Theater. Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort.
What do I wear during the massage?
Depending on the techniques used, you may or may not need to be undressed. Most people completely undress for a full body massage, but that is up to you. You may choose to wear your underwear. I will step out and give you privacy to undress and have you lie down in between the two sheets on the table. You will be covered with a sheet, and only the area I am working on will be uncovered. I practice strict draping methods at all times.
I forgot to shave! Do I stay home?
Don’t be silly. I don’t care about that. Nor am I analyzing your body type. We’re all human, and we’re all beautiful.
What type of oils and lotions do you use?
I have a wide assortment of oils and lotions I use. Sometimes I use oil blended with an essential oil. Other times, I use lotion mixed with oil. It just depends on the type of massage given. I have jojoba, hemp, and coconut oils on hand. There may be ingredients in the oils you may be allergic to. Please indicate on the health history form if you have any sort of allergies to scents, foods, or nuts. While I’m trained in first aide, I don’t have an epi-pen on hand.
Do you use Essential Oils?
I do have a few blends in my office. I keep them for myself when I’m there working. However, if you have a blend you’d love for me to diffuse during your massage, then bring it along with you and we can certainly do that!
I am in pain! Will I get better right away?
Pain is complex. It’s created by your habits, the work you do, and your past and present injuries. It’s also strongly influenced by stress and even your mindset. If you come in with chronic hip pain that you’ve had for three months, it’s unlikely it will be completely pain free after only one session. In this instance, you’ll most likely be pain free after a series of sessions. It could take a weeks, or months.
Do you have Saturday appointments?
Currently, I have a few morning appointments available on Saturdays. Being a single parent can be challenging! So, thanks for understanding about my limited availabilities on the weekend.
I hate spa music and pan flutes! Can we listen to something else?
Absolutely. I can create any station I want on Pandora. I can listen to pretty much anything with the exception of really heavy metal and punk rock.
Can you come to a chair massage event at my company?
I have a super comfy massage chair that I can bring to a corporate event, health fair, bridal party, etc. Call or email me to discuss your event as well as my rates.
What color is your building in Fort Worth anyway?
I like to call it salmon.
I’m here for my massage in Fort Worth, now what? Where do I go?
Go through the door under the Ridglea Village sign. It has the number 3309 above it. If you’ve walked past the State Farm sign, you’ve gone too far. Go upstairs, take a left, and then my office is on the right side of the hall.
Do you offer Pre-Natal Massage in your office in Fort Worth?
Yes! I totally can. Just let me know when you book an appointment so I can make sure that I have all the pillows you’ll need to be comfortable.
